Weather

Daytime temperatures can reach into the mid to high 50’s in October. Nighttime temperatures can dip below 30 at this time of year. Snow is possible in the evenings. We are planning to have one hosted evening outdoors at the Fountain Courtyard of the St. Regis Resort. There will be heaters and fire pits, but we also ask you to plan to pack a warm outfit for the evening.

US residents may need to carry a passport to fly domestically. This is part of the Real ID Act. Learn more about your state’s individual compliance here.

Adjusting to the Altitude

For those who have never been to Aspen before, it is important to know that Aspen is located at 7,908 feet above sea level giving the destination a high alpine climate with low humidity & year-round sunshine.

Below are some tips to help you prepare for the altitude change upon arrival.

Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate some more! Water is the number one way to help your body adjust to our high and dry air. Plan to drink twice the amount of water while in Aspen as you would at home.

Monitor your alcohol intake. Alcohol actually slows down the body’s adjustment to elevation. Monitor your alcohol consumption over your first few days. You will feel its effects faster than usual, so be aware and make sure to drink water as well.

Give your body time to adjust. Although you might think you’re ready to take on that hike you’ve been looking forward to all year, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise during the first day of your trip.

Prepare for the sun. The risk of sunburn is increased at high altitude. The sun will be out in October, so don’t forget to pack sunscreen, a hat, lip balm and sunglasses.

Still can’t shake the feeling? The St. Regis Aspen Resort’s Altitude Concierge helps adjust guests to being at 8,000 feet above sea level in comfort. The Altitude Concierge can provide a personal oxygen machine to be delivered to your room for easier breathing and can also offer ideas for low-impact activities while in Aspen. The property is focused on making sure guests enjoy their stay by helping them adjust to the effects of altitude with as much as possible.
